I am sad to see streaming services change.
Here are my thoughts about how streaming services are changing the Entertainment Industry and where that may go. Netflix ended my subscription of Netflix recently. My husband and I first got Netflix when they sent DVD's to the house. I have to say that it's been a wild ride with that service. In the early days it felt a little like Napster....they carried all of the shows I wanted to watch with no commercials. Of course they had to figure out how to grow revenue so they changed things up. They announced that they would open a production studio. Immediately HBO pulled their content from Netflix and started their own streaming service. The Entertainment Industry watched eagerly to see what would happen. Recently, the reason the Disney/Fox merger happened (according to an industry insider I know) was to combat Netflix that had signed exclusive multi-year deals with Fox's best writers. Yet, the original content that Netflix has produced sucks. All of it has been so dark and just not my style. I couldn't even watch the second season of the cartoon SheRa with my daughter because the humor was awful. I watched a couple of episodes of Stranger Things but didn't like it. The rates keep increasing so that they can afford the heavy production costs. Yes, they keep putting out their original content but nothing else. So, bye bye Netflix. YouTube By far my favorite streaming service. I love that anyone can be a content creator, including myself, and that is the sweetness of YouTube...without it we wouldn't have Professional Video Game Players or ASMR. Believe me, ten years ago if you told me those would be the two types of shows I'd prefer to watch I would say you're insane. I love supporting individuals. That's why I'll stick to YouTube and that's what makes it valuable. However, the fact that you can pay for YouTube Red and that they are starting to put two mainstream commercials before videos sucks. All The Other Options Twitch has popped up for professional gamers to stream hours of content on. That's an okay app. Again, you have the option to pay for it and there can be several ads before the popular channels start if you don't. Disney+ is another one I'll probably buy. Not just for the Marvel content but hopefully they have decent kids shows for my daughter. Their Netflix content was minimal. My husband and I also have Amazon Prime. I like that there are older free movies that he likes to watch but we can also rent movies that we don't want to own. We watched Universals Dark Universe's The Mummy recently and boy was I glad we didn't see that one in theaters or buy the DVD. I haven't physically rented a movie since I was a teenager! I'm not into Redbox. I love Star Trek but I won't get the CBS streaming service because there is nothing else of interest. That channel used to be free on television. Why would I pay to stream it? What Do I Think Will Happen? I think, after the success of Netflix and HBO Direct that the market is going to be flooded with streaming services that are also producing shows. Not all of them will make it because if you buy every channel separately it's going to be the same price as cable. I don't watch television that much. I don't like sitcoms. So, most don't appeal to me. Eventually, it will settle down and someone like Amazon Prime will make a package deal of it. Conclusion I'm sad that streaming is changing. The good old days of ad free streaming is gone...just like the Ad Free Satellite Radio disappeared. I haven't had Sirius satellite radio since so I don't know if they went back to the ad free content. I wish there was a competitor to YouTube where content could be uploaded. That's my only gripe. I know there is Patreon but that's just another app to upload and it's more complicated then YouTube. For the most part, it's just television and advertisers finding their way back to the audience that left classic television and cable behind. Just like social media being split between Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with each having a slightly different approach...we might see that happen with streaming services. My guess right now that a set up like Amazon Prime will have the most staying power but YouTube will continue to thrive.

This is a weird item I wanted to share.
I bought a kit with quail feathers from Sage Goddess to make my own smudge fan. I decided I wanted more feathers. I went on Amazon, investigated companies and decided on ethically harvested Turkey feathers but I haven't bought them. I associate the symbol of the Turkey with the symbol of the Buffalo. The story of the first Buffalo is of the Great give away. The buffalo accepted sacrificing themselves for men because they realized mankind's consciousness had become so spiritually cut off from the divine that they needed to eat animals to maintain their life force. I love that symbolism. Well, I haven't bought those feathers... Almost everyday for ten days I found these feathers on my walks. Right smack dab in middle of the sidewalk. I couldn't miss them if I tried! I've heard of this happening before but I never experienced it. The first time I was stunned. The second time I was still in shock but thanked the Universe. The third day I was just blown away...and it continued until day ten and I decided I had enough feathers. Then they simply stopped. I think it's hilarious how they vary in size in such a way that the go from big to small. I'm not sure what type of bird they came from but I don't think that's important. I'm not really into what it might symbolize. I looked it up for kicks when making this blog and it said it means Angel's are near. I just felt that it meant that I was on the right path. Things got rough there for a bit with me and now they've entered a cleaner, lighter, and more interesting period. I'm curious to find out what this new phase in my life is going to be like but also just want to savor it all! What is awesome is that it will personalize and make the smudge fan that much more attuned to my energy and unique. I just wanted to share because it is fun! As I said previously I'm just learning about astrology. However, I've decided it's a lot of fun and brings a richness and depth into my life.
Our ancestors on all continents were in touch with many cycles. I just wanted to share a few. The Moon Cycle Aww, the moon. My favorite sky wanderer. That's what planets were named originally. They were the 7 stars that wandered about the sky while the other stars in their constellations seemed fixed. I think that's a fascinating and important understanding. Each month represents a quick cycle. The New Moon sets the tone. People say it's when the theme is set for the collective. New Moons are the perfect time to set inventions. We can symbolically do this by writing a wish and planting it in our yard in a biodegradable container or a banana or orange peel. The Full Moon is the result on the collective level. On a personal level you can release during that phase of the moon. You can write down what you want to let go and burn it. Adam Elenbas has a fascinating video on moon phases you can check out below. The 13 Signs As Seasons Most will tell you that there are only twelve zodiac signs still and leave out Ophiuchus (November 30 to Decmber 18) but it usually takes a while for people to change and update things. Plus, there are already several schools of thought in astrology. However, it's easy to figure out when the sun enters each sign...also referred to as Houses of the Son. Think of the Sun as being Symbolic as the Soul of the collective. Each time that the sun enters a new house it experiences a new energy. For example, if you were to visit my house and then visit my parents house each one invokes different feelings because of the inhabitants. Knowing what energy that the Soul of the Collective is in helps you to plan things. When the Sun is in Cancer you know it's time to focus on family. When the sun is in Sagittarius it's a time for adventure. The first House for the collective is generally considered to be Aries. Light Season and Shadow Season Each year the Sun goes on an adventure that resembles the Hero's Journey. From the Winter Solstice to the Summer Solstice is the "Upper World" or "Light" part of the year. From the Summer Solstice to the Winter Solstice is "Shadow Season" or the "Underworld". Each can be associated with Alchemy but I won't break that down here. In the Light Season we plant our intentions and we work on making them a reality. Christmas is the victory of the Light over Shadow and Easter is the rebirth of the Earth as a result. In Shadow Season, when the sunlight is waning (think of it being similar to the waning moon phase but it is a longer cycle) there are three harvests. There is Lammas (in Leo), Mabon (in Libra) and Samhain (Scorpio). You can look up all three and check out their symbolic meaning. Conclusion There is far more depth in the cycle of life than our current societal belief. These deeper cycles can help us become aware of the more subtle influences on our lives allowing us to work with them. When we are not aware of these influences we are often taken by surprise when their effects are felt. The difference between being aware of these subtle influences is empowerment. We can either choose to ignore or deny this information causing us to feel that we are the consequence and result of chance (science wants to believe in a mechanical universe but that it's all the result of microscopically rare random chemical reactions with no rhyme or reason)...therefore victims of a random pointless cruel universe. Or we can choose to believe that there is a Natural Order set about by a Higher Power that regulates all things and that we are the Hero's of our own Journey, knowingly take up the Hero's Journey and claim our power as a result. Every year as a society and in our personal cycle we enter the Underworld and Come Forth Into the Light of the Sun again. We can do that entirely on a subconscious level or we can choose to do that consciously which completely changes our paradigm and perception of the world. The choice to be a victim of chance or to be a willing adventurer is ours to make.
This is one of those things I didn't notice but it came up when I watch one of the few shows I follow.
New Rockstars goes in, breakdowns and assigns meaning to movies. With Marvel they've been right on and directors have taken notice so they are starting to include "Easter Eggs" for fans. As I go further within this synchronicity isn't really for me. Yet, as New Rockstars are saying their focus is to be a nerdy zeitgeist and have their hands on the pulse of he collective consciousness...they noticed. Carnivals are in a lot of movies. (3:45) Toy Story 4 IT 2 Dumbo US Shazam Mary Poppins I have no desire to see any of these movies. I might see IT 2 because the husband really wants to see it...but none of the others even remotely interested me. What Does It Mean? I'm not sure because this isn't for me. Maybe it is the impermanence factor as they mention in the New Rockstars video. Life on Earth is not permanent. The natural order of things is for things to come together and fall apart to create an unceasing amount of variety and unique moments. Yet, we try to solidify and hold onto definitions. So, for those who want to hold onto things as a foundation through personal attachment to materials...it makes sense. Also, clowns and ventriloquist dummies represent the Shadow. The fear of finding an emptiness within or what is supposed to be humorous being tragic...is a reflection of how most people view themselves. The Odd Synchroncity For Me I shared a little bit about the dream with the Green Stone with a hand on it that I had before Christmas. The interesting part that I don't think I shared was the ending. I was a little ashamed and upset by what happened. I went into the backyard to explore older societies and ended up in a carnival. Backyards always represent the past. In the carnival I got in a bubble like ride and it was shaken a third time and I had to yell that I was in there.. and it stopped. As I shared before, I woke up knowing I had made the wrong choice in the dream and that it was a warning. To see the Carnival theme pop up in this way...right around the time of a decent sized Earthquake in California is super weird.Add to this the Lemurian synchronicity that does very much involve the past the symbolism of this moment is very much like Decembers Dream. Conclusion Such a weird coincidence for me but it confirms that taking time out from the blog and YouTube videos for me is the best. I normally might have dug into the Lemurian mystery and why the energy of that histiory is importatn now. I've let that go realizing the past us not important. Neither is the future because that's only a potential that may be realized. I'm choosing to focus on the Sweetness of the Present moment that I am in which is the best I've ever experienced. I wanted to share this with all of you, however, because it is something currently pass throgh the collective consciousness. |
